Description

The single chloroplast of the unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii contains an orange carotenoid pigment spot that functions in phototaxis. The 'eyespot' is seen in this 250 nm epon section imaged with a JEM-1000 TEM at 1000KV as an array of dark spheres.
