Description

Kinetodesmal fibers arise from the proximal ends of the basal bodies and curve upward and to the cell’s right of the kinety. Together with kds arising from more posterior basal bodies they form a stack of overlapping fibers in the longitudinal ridge. A ribbon of microtubules also arises from the proximal end of the basal body and curves posteriorly passing to the right of the kinety. The plasma membrane and outer alveolar membrane were fragmented in this cell. TEM taken on 11/2/68 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at 60kV. Neg. 20,500X.

Technical Details

Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. The raw negative was scanned with an Epson Perfection V750 Pro and this high resolution image is best used for quantitative analysis.
