The spongiome of membranes that surround the CV are probably not preserved in their native state when collidine buffered fixative is used. However, suggestions of decorated tubules as well as smooth tubules are found. The decorated tubules may bear V-type proton pumps as is true of homologous structures in Paramecium. TEM taken on 2/24/72 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A operating at 75kV. Neg. 19,500X. Bar = 0.2µm. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned to Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis. There is a high resolution version of this image in the library (CIL:39507) which is available for quantitative analysis.
