Description

Dividing eggs of the medusa Clypeaster japonicus showing birefringent spindles and fertilization envelopes. The arrow indicates the direction of the compensator slow axis. As the direction of compensation (arrows) is rotated 90 degrees, the contrast of the spindles changes sign.
