Description

A nascent digestive vacuole with several acidosome-like vesicles docked at its cytosolic surface. The presence of the microtubules from the oral ribs signifies that this vacuole is still attached to the oral region. These ribbons continue on into the cell as the deep fiber. TEM taken on 1/29/65 by R. Allen with RCA EMU3F operating at 50kV. Neg. 16,000X. Bar = 0.5µm. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned to Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis. There is a high resolution version of this image in the library (CIL:39271) which is available for quantitative analysis. Technical Details

Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. Additional information available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
